Welcome to the Spreadsheet Tune-Up!
Get ready to upgrade, refine, and optimize your Excel spreadsheet. Many people settle for the basics in Excel. They treat it like a simple grid of cells because they don't realize how much it can do. Or they are intimidated by its advanced features and think they are too hard to learn. That's a misconception! Excel was made for people like you. If you focus on the easy-to-use features, your spreadsheets will be efficient and enjoyable to work with.
This training was created for busy professionals who want to make quick spreadsheet updates that actually have a big impact! There are 5 steps, and each video is 5 minutes or less.
Let's get started!
Step 1: Excel Tables
The first thing you need to do is to convert your data into an Excel Table. This is not the same as a regular "table" that simply arranges data in rows and columns.
An Excel Table is a special data structure that gives Excel more information about your data. You can easily filter and sort your data in the header, add a row for totals, and use names instead of cell addresses to refer to your data.
Excel Tables are very powerful and useful tools that will make your work easier and faster!

To make your sheet more user-friendly, you can freeze panes on the top and/or left side. This way, you can always see the header information that is usually located in these areas. Here is how you do it.

A good practice for working with spreadsheets is to name the cells that contain important values or parameters.
This way, you can use those names in your formulas instead of cell references, which makes them more readable and understandable.
For instance, instead of writing =Sheet2!$C$11*Sheet1!$B$5, you can write =TaxRate*Income if you have named those cells accordingly.
